Placenta Donation and Your Patients

Expectant mothers have the opportunity to donate birth tissue through participating hospitals in Florida and Virginia. This page is intended as a resource for OB-GYN teams who are guiding patients through this process.

The gift of birth tissue can benefit individuals impacted by severe and chronic wounds. Birth tissue can also be used for research projects dedicated to better understanding diseases, such as cancer, and how to treat them.

To initiate this process, you can help your patient fill out an interest form. A LifeNet Health team member will contact each patient to discuss the placenta donation program. (A brief social and medical history questionnaire and blood sample will also be required. Patients participating in research programs may need to complete additional forms.)

Placental Membrane Grafts

LifeNet Health is committed to restoring health for patients around the world by making the most of every precious donor gift. Placenta donations can help treat a variety of conditions, including surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers and traumatic burns. These gifts are transformed using LifeNet Health's breakthrough technology into products like Matrion, the first naturally intact decellularized placental membrane graft to incorporate the full trophoblast layer.
