LifeNet Health, along with Johnson & Johnson MedTech, Introduce Innovative New Orthopedic Solution

Virginia Beach, Va. – August 14, 2024 – LifeNet Health is excited to announce the US launch of PliaFX Pak, a versatile bone allograft developed in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson MedTech. PliaFX Pak combines mineralized bone chips with precision-machined moldable demineralized fibers, offering surgeons an advanced solution to address voids and defects in orthopedic spine and trauma procedures, including fractures, fusions, and osteotomies. It also fills a need in a fast-growing demineralized bone matrix (DBM) market, where estimates see 3-5% growth by 2028.

PliaFX Pak's 100% bone allograft features a proprietary blend of bone chips and demineralized cortical fibers processed with PliaFX Advanced Fiber Technology. This unique composition becomes moldable upon rehydration without the need for a carrier, enhancing both handling and performance. Its clinical applications span lumbar interbody fusion, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO), distal femur fracture, calcaneal fracture, and proximal humerus fracture.

PliaFX Pak stands out due to its optimized handling properties. The interlocking fibers and bone chips create a moldable and intact graft that can be transferred quickly and easily to the surgical site, eliminating the need for the tedious one-by-one transfer associated with traditional bone enhancing surgical efficiency.

Additionally, those long, rough cortical fibers in PliaFX Pak provide numerous contact points for platelet attachment, facilitating coagulation and stopping bleeding effectively. Its osteoconductive scaffold, with a large surface area and interconnected network of bone fibers and chips, supports cell attachment and spreading, promoting bone and blood vessel formation.

This new addition to the PliaFX family of bone void fillers, which already includes PliaFX Prime and PliaFX Strip, will be commercialized through J&J MedTech starting in August 2024. "LifeNet Health's advanced fiber technology in PliaFX Pak sets a new standard for bone graft handling and performance. This innovation provides surgeons with a superior option that not only meets clinical needs but also enhances surgical efficiency," said Rich Rice, Vice President, Orthopedics & CMF at LifeNet Health.
