National Donor Sabbath is an Interfaith Celebration of Life
National Donor Sabbath unites all faith communities in honoring the legacies of organ, eye, and tissue donors. It is a time to stand together with donor families, recipients, and donation and transplantation professionals as we spread the word about the need to register. This annual event is observed two weekends before Thanksgiving.
Who can be a donor?
People of all ages, races, sexual orientations and medical histories.
How does my religion support donation?
All major religions support donation as a final act of compassion and generosity.
Does donation affect funeral plans?
Donation doesn’t limit funeral options. Donors are treated with the utmost respect through the entire process. An open-casket funeral is still an option following donation.
Why is it important to talk to my family about my wishes?
Loved ones can help ensure your intention to donate is honored.
How great is the need for tissue and organ donations in the U.S.?
More than 100,000 people are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants, and an estimated one in 20 will need some type of tissue transplant in their lifetime. One organ donor can save up to nine lives. One tissue donor can restore the health of more than 150 people.
