Russell Ragland

07/05/57 – 12/07/04

The quilt square made in his honor was made by family of mine and Elizabeth’s, Roni Bookman. She used a photo of Russell taken by Elizabeth down at “The Point” at Cape Hatteras, North Carolina after a day of fishing. It was overlooking the sound to Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. It was our favorite place. The last thing he would pack up before we would leave was his fishing pole, always thinking he would miss a bite. We chose to have the Cape Hatteras lighthouse embroidered for this quilt square also. We loved the Outer Banks and spent a great deal of time there before his death.

The statement that was made was from a poem written by Elizabeth and read at Russell’s funeral. She stated at the end of the poem “I now realize that I am not so alone, all I have to do is drift to where the ocean meets the sound”. She was referring to hoping that he is fishing there at “The Point” and healthy and happy now and one day we will join him.
