David Alan Ragland

David wanted to be an organ donor. He believed in the cause. It reflects his caring and sensitive nature. He would be saddened if he knew how little could be used. He would have thought “What a waste.” But too much time had passed only his tissues, bone and heart valves could be used.

But we are thankful David was able to help someone. Please don’t let your and your loved one’s organs go to waste. Life is so precious, and you may save someone else’s life or make their life more livable. That is what David wanted.

David’s family are also potential donors. We also believe in the cause. Before, we just knew the words “organ donation.” We knew a little about what it meant. But, since losing David and getting to know LifeNet Health and some of the people, we now know the true meaning of what it means and how very valuable organ donation is.

We designed David’s quilt piece trying to reflect on the kind of person he was, and how much we loved him, and how very proud we are of him.

David was a bright light in our lives. He had such a beautiful smile and a wit that would knock you over. He cared about everyone. He loved his family and was a very loyal and true friend. He loved Jesus and joined a church 13 days before he passed. He loved going to church activities and meeting new people.

One of the bright spots in David’s life were his nephews, Chris and Connor, and his niece, Meghan. He was a wonderful uncle, and they loved him. He was a wonderful brother to his sisters, Pam and Becky, and to his brother, Jon, and a wonderful son to his Mom and Dad. He was a true Gift from God, and we thank Him every day for 24 years of memories.

Some of David’s interests were surfing, swimming, church, school, computers, GIRLS, reading, music, cars, video games, taking road trips, eating, and his Cocker Spaniel, Kelsey. (Not necessarily in that order).

We will continue to love and miss him each and every day, but we know he is in God’s loving care and we know we will see him again someday. He is our sunshine, our moonbeam, and our bright shining star. We hope that his goodness will live on through those that he helped, and that they will continue to live long, healthy and normal lives.
