Derrick Spencer

This quilt piece is of a little boy named Derrick B. Spencer, son of Arlene and Bernard Spencer, Brother of Kevin, Steven and Crystal Spencer. He was 11 years old at the time of his death, which was caused by a tragic automobile accident.
Derrick was a child who was so full of love and smiles and enjoyed making everyone around him happy. He loved life and enjoyed it to its fullest, trying to experience every good thing he could. He was involved in baseball, karate, kickball, fishing, swimming, hockey, bowling, singing for the lord, traveling and so much more.
He loved his teachers as his second mom (Regina Davis) and second dad (Donald Bradford) named his first child after my son Derrick. In his journal that we found in the garage, he had so many wonderful things in which the memories will last for a lifetime. He said, “If he had a million dollars, he would give to the poor and give to the hungry.” Another area he wrote, “He wished that world hate would turn to world peace so people won’t have to hate anymore.” For an 11 year old boy he really thought so differently, he was indeed a gift of love from above. We will always love and miss him. Derrick’s family donated his organ/tissue to LifeNet Health. The family felt Derrick loved life so much that part of him living in the eyes and hearts of others would mean so much.
